What is the shape and size of your vision? "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy (generous), your whole body will be full of light." Isn't that awesome? And there is more! "But if your eyes are unhealthy (ungenerous / bad), the whole body will be full of darkness (no light in your body). If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Oooh-wee! Let's look deeper. What do you admire?

Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down. Disciples went to him there. He had done many mighty things and crowds from everywhere were following him. This was about to be profound.
You may imagine a cluster of impoverished illiterates sitting around him. Toss that. Picture brilliant, courageous, industrious, distinguished, huge-hearted minds - a wide spectrum of folk. They will change the world.
Jesus is teaching. 2000 years ago. No light bulb. No brand-name reading glasses. Huge sun. Huge moon. A gazillion stars. No? Nothing of our modern concepts, super-duper privileges, institutions, conveniences back then. Regardless, the human condition remains the human condition.
Jesus is teaching. In his straightforward simplicity, don't miss the awesome enlivening richness of the metaphors he employs to deliver empowering life-thriving truth? Don't miss the fact these were mindful folks with whom he was seeking a great partnership. And will seal that deal.
Jesus is teaching. In its spiritual profundity, don't overlook his comprehensive understanding of the surrounding culture, traditions, practices, the depth of his familiarity with and love for this company, the breadth and significance of practical issues he was addressing, and the gravity of total engagement.
Don't miss any of it. Dive in through the brilliance of this EYE. Rediscover Jesus attending to the WHOLE PERSON in its everyday necessities in COMMUNITY, and not at all to the narrow interests of agenda-builders, cherry-pickers, and finger-pointers. This is crucial. Dive in foremost freed to receive its nourishment NOT fixed on swimming out to dispense novel ditties. Dive in recognizing this is how one of the greatest movements ever recorded announced itself. Dive in willing of heart and with the rigor of a disciplined mind. You'll find it a whole different ball game. Beautifully transformative. Immensely practical. Enlightening. Perhaps, richly, we will rise and breathe again.
