Wherever you go, whatever you do, you take yourself with you. Everything else is dressing.
"If not us, then who? If not now, then when?"
Along the road of significance Beyond The Hero, on shoulders of giants, in company with legends - these principled, purposeful, humble compasionate servants of love, justice and peace, these tireless practitioners of genuine neighborliness who smartly and unyieldingly press against all oppressive forces of evil and against the contemptuous indignities of hatred, and of arrogance, and of snobbery, and of hypocrisy, and of sorted deprivations - multitudes of us pressing ever forward (learning as we go) are continuously enthused by innumerable moments indelibly etched in every atom of being and becoming, and on every speck of sand beneath our ride. This is a moment.
The moment reminds us, educates us, inspires us. This is a huge moment and has a name: John Lewis.
A conscience!
A champion!
A stature.
Badgerd. Beaten. Spat upon. Cursed at. Insulted. He never gave up standing up for all of us. "We have turned a deaf ear to the blood of the innocent," he urged in the wake of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, "... and the concern of our nation. We are blind to crisis. Mr. Speaker ... where is the heart of this body? Wher is our soul? Where is our moral leadership? Where is our courage?"
"May we love as courageously; serve as humbly; and until justice rolls down like water, may we always cause Good Trouble." Cory Booker.
Let us beware of ignoring history, of being ignorant of history, of embracing a false history, of believing there is nothing to learn from history. If one has never known rain, the sky will soon cry on that one, and every seen sunshine will call that one a liar.
Welcome to episode fifteen of BEYOND THE HERO - good trouble - curated by Neville DeAngelou. Pressing ever forward: making the moments count gloriously.

"It was not enough to come and listen to a great sermon or message every Sunday morning and be confined to those four walls and those four corners. You had to get out and do something."
- John Lewis |
