Two juxtaposed realities prove fascinating, instructive, and resourceful to us. Their integral responsiveness to emergent leadership and to the birthing of excellence along our journey Beyond The Hero is a venerable collaboration.
We find a locked-in partnership operating at the crux of life, one that is irreducible, enduring, and unconditional, regardless of how differentiated its artistry is reflected or experienced across time. It is an interplay between the human being and nature evolving.
Two intriguing complexities exist in this relationship: social externality and restrictive intelligence.
This occurs when one person's action, whether or not legitimate, privileged, warranted or a natural-born right, inescapably impacts another, whether or not welcomed, expected, comprehended, positive or negative, and vice versa. We are calling this impact social externality. (See 'Tragedy of The Commons'). It undegirds a wide range of tragedies inflicted upon societies, many now vexingly exposed by the current pandemic. (See 'The Chef's Story'). You may discover that you and I are inextricably bound - asleep and awake. Good and bad!
All elements of our natural universe (as is now insufficiently but best understood to have been set upon their evolutionary course from inception) operate without regard to the state of evolving human intelligence. Yet, the very human in its insufficiency (no matter how brilliant or enlightened in a particular moment) and by virtue of externality continuously alters particulate trajectories. And those trajectories alter humans. It is an intriguing ongoing indeterminate. And it is a rumble we've identified as restrictive intelligence. The current pandemic opened this window to many of us. (See 'The Slow Boil'). You may discover that we are inextricably bound - dead or alive. Good and bad!
You probably heard of the story of the frog in hot water. Such a frog, smart enough never to stay put in boiling water, will quite readily orient itself in a pot of tepid water and never perceive its growing danger even as that pot of water is slowly boiling it into a meal. Let's go deeper. No doubt you've heard of the Frog In The Well, so no need to re-broadcast that tragedy. Ah, but aren't those just children's stories? Hmmm? Twinkle-twinkle little stars, what is there that awakes the best within us, that quality worthy of the gravity of our moments; that bright spot that makes it better when we are all in it together - inescapably?

The Chef Has A Story
Pick the voice (one's preferred whisperer); listen to its sounds, its unmistakable echoes: a heart-pounding orchestration (reflections, reverberations, inflections, sonic booms, melded pitches; all refracted from the intimate confines of one's crafted cloister). It whispers a particular story: a chef's story echoed, a particular melody, an orchestral tune, mastered, that is private and patented. Pick the voice. It is the voice of a vulnerable storyteller singing an ordered tune.
Ancestral Stories. Yesterday's story. Today's story. Everyday stories. African stories. Oral stories of indigenous peoples. Modern replicas post modernly infused. The Torah. Biblical stories old and new. The Bhagvagad-Gita. The Koran. Shakespeare. Homer. Honored literary geniuses of every stripe through every era. Greek Tales. Evolving stories from the darkest of all ages through conscience and enlightenments, from Eden through hell, across every layer of heaven; these whisper the same story heard refracted from the intimate confines of one's crafted cloister. It is the story of a cook.
The devil - a myriad incarnations - is a ubiquitous principal in that story. That devils' tricks; the devils' means, methods and manipulations; an epic gaslighter, the devils' snares are exactly the same as they ever were, though the devils' tools trend with times, for the aim is always the same: to spoil the broth, to serve a poison, to own the cook and the kitchen.
The human is a principal in that story - this cook, this stirrer, this chef. Whether the chef knows it or not, every human action today designs tomorrow's interactions, and that human has a choice; this too has always been that way. We - each of us - like a frog in a cauldron unaware it is pushing a boulder up an ever-rising buttery hill: we pay for each other's pain continually - an ever-rising hidden cost that becomes a debt maturing into an unbearable burden. So, here we are; at the Chef's Table, where the hungry are gathered. What is your Chef's Story? This is one of life's two juxtaposed realities. There is another. Both are awesome collaborative opportunites with extraordinary possibilities for the able leader.
BEYOND THE HERO, the skills used along each journey of significance were honed from the hero's journey where no hero can go it alone or come through without being transformed. BEYOND THE HERO, its leaders are of a brand new breed, as we shall continue to discover.
