Like any good mother, her desire was to have her child grow bright and bold, and to be full of good humor and wit, and to be generous and courageous and kind.

For, being such, how could anyone not have the most beautiful story?

After all, what is the code and concept of life, of living, of humanity, if it is not to find one's calling and to have that calling be greater than one's self; if it is not to pursue that calling and complete it with joyous self-respect?

Satisfying your Need

We're delivering goods, services and ideas of great value to life's market. We're seeking goods, services and great ideas of value from the broad market. What about you?

All of the icons of our history, our prophets, sages and seers: they all came delivering goods, services and ideas of longlasting, often infinite, value. This is immensely informative.

If you do not have "the goods" you have nothing to deliver.

We asserted our desire to be participants of profitable exchanges in the broad market, and we decided on a clear definition of profitabiltiy. You may also recall me revealing that immediate upon that assertion a few tricky questions arose, the two most basic of which are: if indeed we are exchanging value for value (fair and square)

  • wherein is the profit?
  • who gets it?

Can we talk? It turns out the resolution to that dilemma is not at all tricky. However, it is highly correlated with one's authentic response to this most intimate question: how able, ready and willing are you to satisfy your need?

There are inevitable consequences of every response to need. That collective consequence is the human condition. Need satisfaction is a definitive separator, which in terms of full value includes A) the experience AS WELL AS B) what is done with the experience AS WELL AS C) the three-dimensional impact of that actuated experience.

Welcome to the ninth episode of Getting 'It' Done - the experience - curated by Neville DeAngelou. It takes chutzpah to show up real in the delivery room of life's broad market - the ultimate separator of sheep, wolf, bull, bear, wheat, chaff, champion, bystander, deliverer, imposter - for, no matter the endeavor, it is every bit and bite about need! This is huge.

Slicing the Pumpkin

SCENARIO: People meet-up with providers of a good or service or idea in order to negotiate an excnange that would satisfy their want, or need, or compulsion. It is not always the good or service or idea, in and of itself, an individual is after. Savvy providers are cognizant of this. The entire shebang is part and parcel of the profitable exchange equation. What is less widely understood is this: each and every want, each and every compulsion, is an outgrowth (positive, negative or neutral) of a need. Finding and addressing that need is a massive game-changer. The holy grail. Profitable!

We don't have to be experts in economic theory in order to realize that individuals and entities have a fickle variety of ways (good, bad and ugly) of grinding out ever higher levels of profit. Many of the systems we live with are designed to accomodate such efforts. However, those are not the ways (in toto) we're employing to slice our proverbial pumpkin.

How about you?

Just as a reminder, we've asserted a preference for profitable exchange (value for value). In addition, ours is not a market segmet, say for business only; ours is the broad market, the life market, the outfitting of our fullest potential (as previously explored) toward wholeness (as previously defined) in a manner no less impassioned and no less courageous than any embracing health, wealth and happiness; peace, joy and freedom; faith, hope and love, in their chosen endeavors.

Let's grab a thin slice of this scenario to examine then to apply it.

In The Harvard Principles of Negotiation we are introduced to the pumpkin (see video above) as a demonstration of the Second Principle which when employed allows us to devise win-win solutions. We encouraged various groups to employ this pumpkin allusion in creation of various scenarios that would help us envisage how profitable exchanges (value for value) might be accomplished or thwarted. You would be amazed by the slew of inventive solutions offered.

Take a few moments to devise your own pumpkin scenarios. Consider how you would create an enhancing experience to increase the value of each potential outcome. I'll share two potential scenarios offered.

As you may recall, in the wake of a limited available resource (only one pumpkin with three individuals each needing a pumpkin), a win-win solution was devised by focusing on the interests of the individuals and by satisfying each individual need. Recognizing that as a useful pattern, our groups came up with a myriad pumpkin scenarios, not all with similar outcomes, but each immensely informative. What enhancing experiences could you create that would increase the value of each of the possible exchanges you envision?

Sample 1: Michael bought the pumpkin to make a lantern. And did. Need satisfied. He offered its meat to Sarah. She made delicious soup for her group; they were invigorated. Needs satisfied. Daniel planted those pumpkin seeds in his grandma's available garden space. Four months later he began reaping pumpkins galore. Surplus.

Sample 2: Nick needed the pumpkin for its seeds to be used in a salad recipe. Need satisfied. Nick offered the pumpkin's meat to Shirley, as a gift, with a smiley face on the package, only to learn later that Shirley considered his gift an insult; it damaged their relationship. Nick planned to use the pumpkin shell for an art demonstration during his mentoring session with little Craig, but was so distraght by Shirley's reaction, he tossed the shell into the garbage bin. Deficit.

what would you do?

Today's pivot QUESTION: if you've embraced the mindset that for every delivery and acceptance of a good, service and-or idea in any profitable exchange, the experience throughout that exchange as well as beyond the exchange is of significant value

- how do you create and deliver enhanced experiences?

What Is In Your Personal Toolkit?

Here we use the language of the dollar without losing sight of the fact that references, such as millionaire and billionaire, are merely metrics; and that money is a means of exchange - a perfectly valid and respected means of exchange, nevertheless, it is that and that alone. Every other percieved quality of the dollar is merely what is projected onto it.

However, it is time to make a huge correction.

It is not actual money that is 'the means of exchange' (with percieved venerable qualities accompanied); it is the percieved 'measure of one's access to money' that is the means of exchange accorded such qualities. (Note this well.)

  • The former is a real measure in 'pocket change' communities.
  • The latter is a fictive reality afforded 'power range' communities.

Continuosly throughout history on into our time there are other metrics with similar hold and impact on communities, societies and environments. Which of these other metrics are you familiar with?

Our field of operation is the broad market (life) and our metrics of consequence are ones highly correlated and suitably applied to fulfilling our call, to satisfying our highest pursuits, and to cherishing each of every precious moment along our journey.

Are you staying comfortably on top of your metrics? This takes practice & requires persistence.

What in your toolkit keeps your 'metric meters' perfectly calibrated for optimal confidence? How about a metric calibrator?

This is a high-achievers' must have. It needs to have a high trust-factor. Put a metric calibrator in your toolkit, and use it smartly. Metric calibrators are not expensive. Not having one readily available and in use does prove to be extremely expensive over time.

This episode's fresh new lens is lust: def - "a passionate desire for something; craving, eagerness, longing, avidity, hunger, yearning; sexual desire." (Which of LIFE'S virtues would you consider a counterpoint to lust? 100 points. To compare your answer see Flight Of The Fused Monkeys - Listen to it - Read It.)

ESSENTIAL ASSIGNMENT

How can you more optimally deliver your 'goodies':

  • valued goods
  • valued services
  • invaluable ideas

such that their benefactors enjoy a more enriching experience?

What need(s) are you satisfying and who are the stakeholders of your current endeavor?

Knowing better positions us to do better!

Hidden needs are a bugbear. Ferreting them out often requires being honest with ourselves and stepping out from the shadows of our guarded self. It may also require some cave-diving.

Let me explain.

No and Yes play pivotal roles in the shape, trajectory and course of our journeys. They are fundamental to (in fact, they are the 'root' levers of) how we come to be exactly where we are this very moment, and has already informed how we will be where we will be during our next blink, and that way ever onward until we're confronted by those two mighty forces again. (Very soon.) No one is exempt. Isn't life exciting?

So, it is strange, don't you think, that a vast swath from amongst us when seriously confronted with the vital question - "What do you want?" - stutter then confess not knowing what they truly want, or cough-up throw-away responses. Strange, indeed. But there is a reason.

In fact, we've compiled and catergoized a list of issues, influences and impacts that continually construct seemingly unscalable walls between desire and opportunity, between individual awakening and consequential want. Ergo, hidden.

Let's pick a scenario from the AM pile (Accumulated Manipulation / Accustomed Manipulation). This practice begins early in life and perfected over time, sort of in this general fashion:

Cute child accustomed to getting needs and wants satisfied - sometimes even before asking - not so much anymore now that effectual baby cuteness is wearing off.

Frequent 'nos' bring ever more disappointment.

Ah, but here is an opening. The more this child wants what mommy wants, the easier it is for this child to get a welcomed positive repsonse. The more this child wants what daddy wants, the more this child gets more positive responses.

Aha.

Child knows its best to want what mommy wants and what daddy wants and what teacher wants, and want what whoever might get this child the 'yes' it wants.

So emotionally wired such a child becomes in his or her pursuit for ever more 'yeses,' that much more this child is manipulated into mimicking the wants of the yes-giver.

Soon, this developing person's wants get melded into every other want that satisfies the delivery of a 'yes' until the moment of truth! In this moment the only thing that comes to mind in response to the question - what do you want - is the answer to what is the biggest yes that would blow my mind and your mind and their mind, not the answer to what this person truly wants which, as it turns out for each of us, would always be the satisfaction of our needs. But those needs are now masked, trapped, manifesting themselves in weird ways - lost - wrapped in a flag called Yes.

How do we resolve this? Perhaps it begins with cave diving. Some people dive in search of monsters - and scare themselves nigh onto death, or get stuck. Some people dive in search of wonders - and emerge to declare those wonders to the world, and make a difference.

Those who have done this kind of cave-diving as a matter of general exploration attest that what's above and what's below are all part of a whole. We are encouraged to embrace this 'oneness' of life, for there are monsters above and below, and there are wonders all around.

Have you ever gone cave-diving? What kind of cave-diver are you?

Take Action

"Know what you own. Understand what you claim. Believe you can achieve what you conceive then call it by its name. Mine! The extent to which you have this clarity of mind, this purity of understanding, this strength of belief, you have the fire, the fuel, the impetus, the passion, the determination, the willpower you require to pursue and retrieve your truest desire. But do not claim what does not belong to you. It will not keep you . . . it will suffer you but for only so long."

You are valued. You are important. What you experience is important. Your intention matters. You are a whole being. You are a true wonder. You diminish yourself whenever you pit valued elements of who you are against vital elements of who you are: your intuitive self against your intellectual self, your rational self against your emotional self, your gut against your heart against your head. Don't be put at war against yourself: you are a masterpiece. An intricate being. Human!

Life: it is a dance. It gets better with practice; its music is in your heart and in your soul and in your blood and in your bones. Life; it is a dance. It gets better with practice. You have a partner – your spirit. You can have a party if you like, but choose smartly who you invite, for life – your life – is a dance. It gets better with practice, unless you stop the music or so crowd your dance floor there is no space to move or be moved within it. Explore. Yes, life; it is a dance. BS Meter: Greed

What is your BS meter needle doing? Jammed! Oh, dear. Signs of hoarding. There are a number of negative issues that lead to hoarding - accumulating stuff - greed. It's time for an oxygen mask. And a wet suit. It is time to go cave-diving. Explore. But keep breathing. Make sure you have enough oxygen. Breathe. If you search well, you'll probably find a few treasures that would be ideal to bring to the surface - the kind that will get you twisting your hips and tapping your feet. You will find yourself dancing, shaking off accumulated stuff crowding your best moves. So dance. Keep on dancing. Create new satisfying experiences. While dancing, remind yourself there is great value and wisdom in not neglecting your genuine needs. (We'll dig into this deeper as we progress). Dance, baby. Dance!

The Great Teller shares An Epic Truth

Across the nation and around the world there is a long rumble.

It is a rumble so loud it strikes ready ears as a distant clap of a fierce thunder. It is a rumble so low, it rides beneath the noise of a thousand human fears; it can no longer be heard. Fear of flight, fear of heights, fear of sand, fear of snow, fear of monsters in the closet, fear of bugs in the pillow, fear of cats, fear of bats, fear of strangers at the door, fear of being lost, fear of being laughed at, fear of being stuck in the toilet bowl, fear of whites, fear of blacks, fear of browns, blues and yellows, fear of nakedness, fear of the unknown, fear of being hurt.

Fear!
