Nuggets in a Nutshell

The GOOD News: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him. THAT'S IT IN A NUTSHELL.

THE whole chebang IN A NUTSHELL

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

JESUS the CHRIST

WHEN a RIVER MEETS the OCEAN
(individual freedom + communal harmony)

So much sweeter, richer, more productive, joyous, wholesome, to be rightly related one with another, lest we gouge and cut ourselves to pieces. Ouch! And still be tossed into the fire. What is the heart and soul - the living core - of life's matter (i.e., being and becoming)? Let's discover. (It'll be fun.)

EXPLORE: Sermon on The Mount (the series)

The Walk

Nicolette Sowder

"Give me the wild children with their bare feet and sparkling eyes. The restless, churning climbers. The wild ones using their outside voices, singing all the way home. Give me the wonder-filled, glorious mess makers dreaming of mountains and mud, aching to run through a field of stars."

OF THE WEEK

ChitChat

Born into a cultural milieu, and there we are! You. Me. Picture it. Paris. Rome. Babylon. Congo. Oz. Narnia. Wonderland. Wherever.

Did the stork ask of you, “Oh, where-oh-where shall I drop you cute little bubbly?” Nope. Plop! You there! Me here! Puss-puss.

What a world! Complex. Ever the same. Ever changing. Varieties galore. Joys. Jubilation. Traumas and tragedies. Pleasures and perils aplenty. Aaagh. “Too much madness over here. They are destroying each other over there. Come. Fix it, please; fix it, fix it.”

Somehow simple and complex got knotted into complicated. Impatience breeds vexations. And we keep crying out for that one thing to fix it, that silver bullet to settle all things quick. Don't we? We do. For, time is short.

“Oh dear!"

"Help us."

“One thing! Just one thing! Impossi . . . wait a minute. Perhaps there is a one-thing that can fix it all, but what-what-what might it be, lazy-bones; what is this one-thing? Hmm.”

Me-thinks I see a flashing light. Can it be that there is such a thing? - Keep your light shining; I'm coming; I'm heading to you right now. - Let me sprint over there and come right back; wish me luck.

"Phewy! Tell me, please, about this silver-bullet thing. And no kidding! My friend is depending on me. Tell me. Tell me. Tell me."

"It's got three plugs."

"A thing with three plugs. Perfect, I'll take it. What is it?"

"It is patient and kind."

"Awesome. What is it?"

"It is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude."

"I love it already; what is it?"

"It does not insist on its own way."

"Aha."

"It is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in truth."

"What is it?"

"It bears all things."

"Oh yes, I absolutely go for that."

"It believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

"Wow! That's perfect. For a time such as this! What is it?"

"You've got to maintain all three plugs; keep them properly connected."

"No problem. I'll see to that. What is it?"

"It will call upon all of your heart and soul and mind and strength."

"Good. I'm sturdy; see these muscles? I can handle that; I'm ready. What is it?"

"It is not only for you; you've got to share it readily with everyone else. Everyone!"

"Duh! It's a fix for everyone; I want everyone to have it. How much is it?"

"It's free."

"Wow! Awesome. Perfect. I want it. Where is it?"

"Hmm. Still missing? Maybe that's the problem. I thought you have it."

"Live without pretending. Love without depending.
Listen without defending. Speak without offending."

Isaiah, the Prophet

"Rise up, shine, because your light has come. The glory of Yahweh has risen upon you. Look, darkness has covered the land. Deep darkness covers the people. But Yahweh will rise upon you. His glory will appear over you, and nations will come to your light."

Bishop Gene Robinson

"It's funny isn't it? That you can preach a judgmental and vengeful and angry God and nobody will mind. But you start preaching a God that is too accepting, too loving, too forgiving, too merciful, too kind . . . and you are in trouble."

Desmond Tutu

"You may be surprised at the people we find in heaven. God has a soft spot for sinners. His standards are quite low.."

Salt of The Soil

SAND is not SALT

Be who YOU are! If you don't like what you are, TRANSFORM

Do what it takes! If you don't like where you're headed, TURN

The BEST you is you. Be you! Don't lose your salt.

May I?

Jesus addressed this SOUL Condition!

Can we stop blaming others for the condition of our eyes: if your eye offends you gouge it out! Your EYE belongs to YOU. My eye is mine. Each eye is the joy and responsibility of the head that holds it. It proves wise to stop blaming others for what you or I behold. Rejoice with it. Is your eye offending you? Would you like to gouge it out? Toss it.

Nothing is resolved blaming others for what's resident in your mind, or mine. Let's trash the excuses. No amount of another's covering or hiding will ever resolve someone else's heart and soul condition, or heal someone else's state of mind. All the laws in the world wont help us or our community or create harmony in that regard. The matter is much, much, much deeper. Counterfiet wisdom is not God's wisdom. Stop blaming others for who you are and what you do and what stirs in your mind. Same for me. What did Jesus say? If your eye offends you, gouge it out then toss it. Or the whole entire kabukie will end up in the valley of Hinnom, Gehenna, that fire (Absolute Misery). Rather, there is more, so much more; yes - a fuller richer more expansive reality. Let's rise to this better occasion. Smile. A new and enlivening creation.

About that hand! Oh, dear. Robots help us!

Dear God, grant me victory today over all that assails. Help me square up to even the greatest challenges and claim authority over them, unafraid. Amen.

"Learn to find joy in the story you are actually living." Rachel Marie Martin

"It was not enough to come and listen to a great sermon or message every Sunday morning and be confined to those four walls and those four corners. You had to get out and do something."

- John Lewis
