Revelation + Mystery. Greatness. Champion. Super force. Phenomenal. Unbeatable. Incredible. Beautiful. Why such hyperbole? Does that not wrenk of better-than, of jibbery-pokery, of jacked-up, of one shove - splutter? Out of balance, out of rhythm, out of focus, it probably does. However, for a people gratified in this full embrace, who are journeying joyously through a world stacked with shuffling odds, ultimately, not an iota of it is anything but outstanding and fantabulous. The woman with the issue of blood (bliblically referenced) was not seeking notoriety or attention or to prove herself holier-than-anyone! Jesus' feeding of thousands (pick the number) with a few loaves of offered bread was not in compettion for the acclaim of most spectacular miracle worker in town. The uniquely complex Rosetta Mission - landing of an orbitter with its probing instruments on the comet Churyumov–Gerasimenko - was not deployed to upstage the extraordinary feats of, say, missions to mars. Any number of these like-willed extraordinary outcomes we find to be more demonstrative of the remarkable brilliance of human commonality designed equiiped for wholeness and mastery than occasions to pursue jaw-dropping wows.

Behavior: There is a fascinating dynamic between behavior and belief - a kind of tension - one that is very predictive of outcome. Habits and routines create our patterns of behavior, the choices of which we make within the confines of our circumstance and environment. But what kinds of behaviors ought one to adopt and cultivate? "After all, what is the code and concept of life, of living of humanity, if it is not to find one's calling and to have that calling be greater than one's self, if it is not to pursue that calling and to complete it with joyous self-respect?" Flight Of The Fused Monkeys. What habits and routines should one employ to assure one's preferred behavioral patterns? Should one accept the circumstance one is in or seek to defy it; work within one's environment, leave it, or change it. These are decisions most of us, if not all healthy adults, face. These are decisions our phenomenal odds-beaters frequently make against all odds. (See RMD)
Beliefs: Throughout this season we have wrestled and dealt with beleifs from many different angles, all of which are worth reviewing and updating time and again, for their pivotal importance to everything we do. However, here I'd like to bring to our attention just one important aspect of belief as it relates to our current undertaking. We like to think of our beliefs as fact-based. In fact, broadly speaking, across societies beliefs have more to do with belonging than with truth. We adopt beliefs, adhere to beliefs and accept beliefs to maintain our tribal identify even in the face of knowledge or evidence that certain of those beliefs have no firm foundation. Those beliefs become prevailing realitiy and some folks will even promote or defend them to the death. To undermine those beliefs or that belief system is to undermine their very identiy, it destabalizes the very foundation of who they are. Beliefs are no small matter. It is the glue in a great many bonds. (See RMD)

Bond: No, no, not James of 007 vintage, and yet still, perhaps so. Here are two quotes that might at first glance seem at odds, nevertheless, enjoy equal simultaneous unquestioned currency in the joyous lives of these oddsbeaters. (1) "The strong bond of friendship is not always a balanced equation; friendship is not always about giving and taking in equal shares. Instead, friendship is grounded in a feeling that you know exactly who will be there for you when you need something, no matter what or when." Simon Sinek. (2) "But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls." Khalil Gibran. On these buoyant waters our oddsbeaters stand, walk and run. The soul is light. Awesome. Pure love is flawless. Eternally strong.

Through the hustle and bustle of life it is easy to be tempted by the alluring offer of a pill that fixes everything. Not only does no such pill exist, were it, what would living mean? Don't we discover meaning in the tussle? Doesn't the ever present rustle alert us that life itself is an ever-recurring topsy turvy swirly of change? Embracing the likes of these, every new day we are awakened to an opportuniy to choose life, to choose joy, to choose happiness, to choose positive or negative, to choose hardship and pain, to choose not the same as we chose yesterday, to embrace the freedom to learn and grow, to rise if we should fall, to climb higher if we are put low, to be human - fully human - authentically so, knowing the very wind that makes one tree strong blows another to the ground. May we be healthily rooted in love and joy and peace and wonder, if we so choose. Indeed, we are intended for each other.

Discovery: Odds-beaters have a firm foundation stabilized in a strong sense of belonging - a bond - a connection to who they are, a connection to what they are about, an awareness of the certainty of uncertainty, a tenacity to doing what it takes, a resolve to getting it done. These can turn unfavorable odds into trading chips. They are phenomenal. They love their work. At times it is a symphony. At times it is a dance. At times it is a pain in the ass. At times it is a joy. These embrace it all.
Action Plan: Be connected to who and what you are. Build and be an effective leader of your external team - those with whom and for whom you belong - acquire the necessary skills. (LISTEN. STAND FIRM. BUFFER EXTRANEOUS NOISES. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. EMBRACE THE PROCESS.) Avoid being stuck in patterns of the past - even though they may have served you well then. The present is an entirely different world. You have more tools and access at your finger tips than Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, and your grandma and grandpa ever had. Way more. Jump for joy.
