Fascinating people boldly transforming their lives before us. Discussion for your group:
stranger at the door: what do you do?
Endurance!
|
Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

miraculous moments
RECLAIM “I believe that the Holy Bibie is a friend that helps us to understand the relationship that God calls each of us into. It is this relationship that breathes new life into us every day, and makes our journey of faith both personal and compelling.” And that's another cool thing my Senior Pastor told us.

"One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.”
― Maya Angelou
"Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm."
― Wilson Churchill
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." John 4:18 |
Daylight gone. Stars full on. Having dug this deep to find and free AP - for that's the mission - It was time to consider possibilities. What if AP is trapped beneath monsters and dragons? Perhaps benevolent dragons are protecting AP from raging monsters. Regardless, being safely trapped is NOT joyous freedom. So what should we do? How does one deal effectively with life's pesky dragons in order to free AP? Someone advanced the real concern over whether this is a question of choice: 'safety and security' or 'joy and freedom'? And if so, in which of these would our AP operate his or her god-given best and be most genuinelly effective? Does it even matter? Indeed, in the process of considering these we discovered many amazing biblical characters squarely set in each of those scenarios, albeit circumstances varied and different. Remember Shardrach, Meshack & Abednego? Remember David? Remember Daniel? Remember Isaac? Remember Samson? On and on and on! Someone advanced the real concern as to whether this might be a question of acts-and-consequences - payback time! So, drop to your knees! Is AP doomed? Ooo-wee! Quite a discussion! But the mission! The mission! The mission! Ours was to find and free AP! Is there anything impossible in The Lord! Many considerations in progress, each of us was prompted to offer up our own indulgences of modern day enligtenment! Mine, here, (below) is a delicious tingler. You see, in the process of considering dragons, however regarded, I began to notice something! An option! A possiblity. A unique reality! A not so private perspective. An aha! In that light, here is my present moment offer of enlightenment on being AP, dragons or no dragons! Maybe, you might be feeling it too. Enjoy. |
Be as you will. Do as you must. It is still your life. If, perchance, someone is tempted to lighten or dismiss this moment as actors merely acting, I'd encourage a closer look, a deeper listen. A precious treat! To be authentic on this amazing planet, to fearlessly explore awesome possibilities of life and living, perhaps requires, as one of Meryl Streeps characters implies, a good measure of chutzpah, but never hubris! "Empathy is the engine that powers all the best in us. It is what civilizes us. It is what connects us." Meryl Streep. And isn't that a reason why Jesus, The Christ, lived amongst us here on earth? And is still with us - even here, even now? |
"Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within." James Arthur Baldwin |
A chance to decide! "I believe that every single event in life happens in an opportunity to choose love over fear." Oprah Winfrey "Love is what we were born with, fear is what we learned here." Marianne Williamson |
They are real. They live amonst us. Some of them are some of us. |
It was time to consider monsters. There are more than enough of biblical, historical and present day super villains to scare the living darkness out of any reveiw. And so it was! |
Some monsters know they are monsters. Amazingly, many monsters do not percieve themselves to be monsters. Many monsters conflate their actions and intentions with that of doing what they percieve to be necessary and right - all the more frigtening! Some can be sweet and nice. Always, they are a destrctive force in ways that span life's spectrum. And that's one way to know them. They come to kill, steal & destroy - not always in ways clearly visible beyond the borders of one's soul - and often times thoroughly rationalized and well disguised. Some monsters are demonic. Some monsters are mad! |
Rather than a cinematic over view of monster & monstering, consider this!
How does one deal with monsters. There are many perspectives, dependent on whether such monsters are external or internal. Here is one to consider, knowing that where monsters and dragons press forth, fear and love appear. They appear beside. They arise in us. They crack open opportunities to transcend. Transcend the gravity of negative impulses; the negative impulses of fear, for example; the negative impulses of hate, for example; the negative impulses of control, greed, or whatever comprises that scarlet letter being seen or stamped on someone - anyone! Transcend! In this particular perspective of transcend, realize that transcending is different in nature from overcoming; it is different from defeating; it is different from conquering, controling, restraining, escaping - each and all of which also have their implications. The experience of transcending - of soaring - of being transcendent - renders views and understanding that are useful when (of nature, of necesiity) one sets foot back in the nitty-gritty of life, on the ground facing the challenges of those reigning impulses. A rather different perspective. So how does one rise above, i.e, soar, transcend? Paul provides a perspective to the Hebrews: strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up, and run with endurance the race God has set before us. Or as my granny used to say: "Mind your own business, pull up your sleeve, and do what you came to do." Just a perspective! |
Have You Seen AP? |
Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another;
listening with the ears of another;
and feeling with the heart of another.
So the craftsman encourages the smelter,
And he who smooths metal with the hammer encourages him who beats the anvil,
Saying of the soldering, “It is good”;
And he fastens it with nails,
So that it will not totter.
