If you are not mindful you will inhabit someone else's dream.

A mindless boy can set his life aside and when he is a man forget where he had set it and spend an awful time searching every which way to find it, for if he doesn't search for it he will regret it, and if he doesn't find it he will hate himself for it.

Nothing on earth exists then to console him.

Pastoral Quotes

Anticipating the Joy

What would the world look like if it really embodied all that was supposed to be incarnate in Jesus?

What if the world, this word that became flesh and dwelt amongst us was not just an experience of Mary and Joseph, but is a continuing experience that gets born in us this day?

What if the world is hungry, begging for, longing for, looking for these values that the Christian church speaks of in this season of advent?

What if they could be born again in us?

And what would the world truly look like, what would our world look like, what would our lives look like if we could fulfill the promises that were revealed in Jesus?

Kindness

"Kindness is a behavior marked by ethical characteristics, a pleasant disposition, and concern and consideration for others. It is considered a virtue, and is recognized as a value in many cultures and religions." Wikipedia

Welcome to gen-u enriching values, Episode 6, curated by your host Neville DeAngelou, a dynamic exploration and implementation of FIVE practical virtues that fortify as well as enhance personal and communal health, wealth and happiness, each actuated toward wholeness of being.

Along our remarkable journey of life and learning we relish actionable discoveries, particularly those that uplift and inspire the "best" from all of us, promote harmony, expand opportunities, exemplify beauty, and reveal wonder, in other words, whatever advances our practice of genuine love through all of its fertile dimensions!

Kindness is fundamental to human existence. Kindness seeks no reward nor advantage - no quid pro quo. Kindness embodies qualities of caring, warmth, friendliness, gentleness, affection, consideration, generosity. On the surface it seems self evident from every angle that community, society, individuals, humanity by every honest measure known, are enormously better off - healthier, happier and wealthier - in a sustained environment of kindness. "Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see," Mark Twain said. Josh Radnor expressed it this way: "It really shocks me when I encounter people who think kindness doesn’t matter. Because I think it’s pretty much the only thing that matters." Why then does kindness seem so rare? Is there something happening behind the scenes? Why is kindness associated with weakness, naivete, door-matty cheese, pushover, timidity, dormancy? What does serious indepth research reveal? Inquiring minds are keen to know. Indeed, is kindness a sustainably enriching value or a sucker-punch awaiting opportunity? What did you find? Do share. Is kindness a profitable virtue?

ah, the sweet pleasure of an exhausting day knowing
- you accomplished being & doing the best you could -

Super Power infusion

Our research reveals kindness to be the most important predictor of satisfaction, strength and stability in vital longterm relationships. Being kind requires awareness. One has to be able to see human beings. One has to be able to recognize genuine need. One has to have the capability to take responsive action. Kindness is truth-based. Kindness requires moral courage. At the heart of the genuine peacemaker, the healer, the restorer, the transformative storyteller, the true lover, is kindness - an uncommon kindness. Paradoxically, uncommon kindness is all around us - everywhere - by its very nature so humble, so pervasive, it seems invisible. Every human being is a functionary of its beneficence in a world teeming with stumbling unkindness.

Kindness

Kindness is life's ultimate untold story - unheralded collaboration of mysteries with long light-footed trails, which when searched and followed lead to heroes of hope and fulfilled dreams, to restoration and resurrection, to transformers and trailblazers, to sparkling jewels of truth.

Kindness originates from the intentional act of doing no harm to others. Kindness is transported in strange vehicles with bright beams and no bells. It has no need of horns on the roads it travels, which are, from the perspective of intention, unhindered right-aways with post haste speeds.

Kindness is viral.

Its benefits accrue, including the expansion of love, empathy, care, and generosity. Which of us born has survived to this moment without acts of kindness? Love is kind.

Kindness

“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” ― Henry James

Humans are born vulnerable. We are powerless at birth. We are wholly dependent. No matter how smart, strong, or gritty we become, we remain beset with individual vulnerabilities. We have blindspots. Our backs are open. Our cries expose us. That is human. Our natural needs expand beyond individual capabilies. The very biases and prejudices we accrue in pursuit of community, in want of security, to satisfy speed of response to need, recklessly expose us. Kindndess covers us. Daily. Quite often unheard and unseen.

Kindness is natural security.

Therein too lies the rub - kindness exposes vulnerability. Kindness steps through trust's open door and finds a human naked and in need. The unkind mimicking kindness can hurt a human - easily - and leave wounds that are hard to heal leaving lasting scars - heightening vulnerability. Unkindness puts humans in debt. Without true kindness security costs a lot - an unpayable amount. Unkindness extracts a price. This is the rub.

One can perform an act of kindness and yet not be one who is kind.

Being kind is selflessness embodied wholeheartedly in self. That is its virtue. Kindness has a locality - it is an address - it is where open heart meets open need - in trust.

Humans are created - built - wired - for kindness. Kindness is a demonstration of respect - not superiority. It is a preserver of peace of mind - not a cut of it. It enhances mental, emotional and physical well-being - not jeopardises it. It requires trust - wholeheartedly.

Kindness does not thrive where arrogance feeds. Kindness is not wanted where there is no need.

Kindness exposes vulnerability - for giver and reciever alike - in the self same moment. Kindness IS a trust.

Kindness is a choice. Kindness is moral courage exercised. Love is kind. Always. Kindness is all around us. No one survives without it.

Life: it is a dance. It gets better with practice; its music is in your heart and in your soul and in your blood and in your bones. Life; it is a dance. It get’s better with practice. You have a partner – your spirit. You can have a party if you like, but choose smartly who you invite, for life – your life – is a dance. It get’s better with practice, unless you stop the music, or so crowd your dance floor there is no space to move or be moved within in it. Yes, life; it is a dance. It gets better with practice.

Love: what is it in the crisis of deep wronging. "The prince, at all her rejections, grew in his want and fell ever more deeply in love with the beauty, so he secluded himself. He scoured the ancients for the right answer. He penned poem after poem and searched his soul again and again. The more he searched, the more he wanted her. The more he wanted her, the more he penned. The depth of his desire was unparalleled, such that the sight of every other woman was as sand tossed into his eyes." (Flight Of The Fused Monkeys)

A Worthy Journey

"I see you're not an ordinary young man."

"I see you are not an ordinary woman."

The woman chuckled before correcting him. "Not just a woman, dear young man. An old woman. A very old woman. I have come a long way. A mighty long way! And now I am old. You've only just begun, my dear youth. This is not an ordinary journey you are undertaking. Do you understand that? It is treacherous and winding. It can be lonely and it is very long. You can get stuck."

"But is it a good journey, ma'am?"

"It is a worthy journey. It is a precious journey. It's packed with pleasant surprise, but it is not every young man's journey."

- Flight Of The Fused Monkeys

“My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.”

Dalai Lama XIV

If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And—which is more—you'll be a Man, my son!

- Rudyard Kipling

What Is Your Calling?

What is keeping you back?

Reality: There is a thing called phantom pain. For example, a person may feel pain in a leg even though that person doesn't have that leg anymore. To that person this pain is real. Persons may be carrying around phantom burdens that have been long gone - removed - but they are still fetching the load. It is advisable to get a new reality. Unburden the load. Take off the bridle and blinders and look around for a moment or two. Look again. Take new stock. See.

Practice: Believe. Get good advice. Surround yourself with authentic people for whom you are an authentic benefit and who would benefit you. Decide. Take action. God is not holding you back from being the best you could be, but if you believe God is holding you back then God is holding you back. Just hang in there.
